A major breakthrough in the fight against crime was recorded in Anambra State as a Joint Security Team led by the state police command, in collaboration with the Army, Navy, and local vigilante operatives, successfully dislodged a suspected kidnappers\' camp in Ogbunka community.
According to a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation followed a fierce six-hour gun duel between the security forces and the armed criminals. Despite resistance from the hoodlums, who deployed explosives as defensive shields, the superior firepower of the Joint Team eventually overpowered them.
The operation led to the recovery of several items, including foodstuffs, cooking pots, and dismembered parts of what are believed to be stolen vehicles. Some of the suspected criminals reportedly fled with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
“The Joint Security Team has taken full control of the area and the dismantled camp to maintain security dominance and prevent any resurgence of criminal activity,” Ikenga stated.
He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while assuring residents of Anambra that the security agencies remain committed to safeguarding lives and property.
“The trust and confidence reposed in us by the citizens will not be taken for granted,” the police spokesperson emphasized.
